Best Crystal Palace Fantasy Premier League Goalkeepers
The battle for the number 1 spot in the Crystal Palace lineup seems to be a little too complicated for my liking. Vincente Guaita or Sam Johnstone seem to be the main options and I’m assuming Guaita will be the number 1 but I’m not 100% locked on that. Last season he only managed to pick up 6 clean sheets in 27 starts which isn’t a fantastic returns when compared to others in his price point. Granted most of that time was spent under Vieira, I still believe there is better options for £4.5 than a Crystal Palace goalkeeper.
Best Crystal Palace Fantasy Premier League Defenders
Tyrick Mitchell
Tyrick Mitchell is only selected by 0.7% of managers which I find quite staggering considering him and the due to be mentioned Marc Guehi were the top scorers for Palace in defence last season. I know we can never use previous seasons scores to judge the future but this Palace back line will be more or less the same as it was when the season finished back in May. Mitchell was a stapled left back and I expect that to carry on with 34 starts in the last campaign, he also got 2 assists and no goals so if you’re set on having a Palace defender maybe don’t get expected too many returns from the defenders but you never know under Hodgson if a different style could suit Mitchell better.
Marc Guehi
Just the 37 starts for Marc Guehi last season shows just how dependable he can be if you need a Crystal Palace defender. Within those he scored 9 clean sheets and finished 19th out of 203 in the ICT index, which is very interesting showing he can pose a threat and contribute where needed. Crystal Palace have some nice fixtures in the first 10 gameweeks that could make Guehi a desirable option if you’re looking to rotate with somebody else on your bench depending on their home and away fixtures.
Best Crystal Palace Fantasy Premier League Midfielders
Eberechi Eze
Eze had an unbelievable second half of the season last year and flourished under Roy Hodgson when he was reappointed as manager. He scored 10 goals and 5 assists in 2022/23 and owes many of them to Roy for his impact on steering the club away from a relegation battle from April. Following Zaha’s departure there’s a lot of expectation that’s now being placed on Eze to fill the void that has been left. Which is great news for FPL managers as it means Eze is now likely to be on penalties and play higher up the pitch to score more goals and contribute more in the way of assists too.
He was the highest scoring midfielder in the £6.5 million price range from last season which indicates there’s probably not many better options out there around his price considering the impact he had on the second half of the season for Palace. So we can wait and see if that was just a purple patch of form,
Michael Olise… When he’s back fit
Currently at the time of writing is only a 25% chance of playing in the first game of the season which is a damning blow as they head to Bramall lane to face newly promoted Sheffield United. Last season was Olise’s best season yet, he scored 2 goals and registered 11 assists, and he’s only going to get better yet. He’s £6.0 million which is less than Eze and is guaranteed to be on free kicks having scored some worldies in the past.
He’s been linked to sign for Chelsea which will be an interesting development if you decide to pick him up as that could affect his minutes in your FPL team as currently he (when fit) will always be in their for the starting 11.
Best Crystal Palace Forwards Picks
With Wilfried Zaha’s departure from the club, it’s tough to figure out who Roy Hodgson will make their primary outlet. Their forward options that are most nailed to start is between Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Mateta who started 20 and 6 games respectively last season. Can either of them move up the ranks and now be more nailed to start? Absolutely, but can they considerably improve their goal contributions? We’re not convinced, both strikers scored 2 goals a piece last season, that’s just not going to cut the mustard for Crystal Palace and for managers in Fantasy Premier League. So until the transfer window slams shut and we can re-assess. I think it’s safe we move away from Crystal Palace attackers. Unless you’re after a cheap enabler, which will then astonishingly make Luke Plange probably the most useful striker to you.
