Goalkeeper
Mark Flekken
So since Mark Flekken signed for Brentford for £11 million, there’s been even more increased expectation that David Raya will depart from the club should be able to get the fee that they desire. Should this be the case this will be the number 1 at the club, and this would have probably been outlined to him when he signed for the club. He was number 1 at Freiburg and was qualifying for European football with them. So there’s a very small chance he would move just to warm the bench.
David Raya was the highest scoring goalkeeper in Fantasy Premier League last season, and were hoping Flekken can repeat this model. He’ll be in a club that will concede a lot of shots allowing to make save points but Brentford kept 12 clean sheets last season, so using this logic we can assume that Flekken will have the opportunity to score some big points at times this season.
Defenders
Rico Henry
Rico Henry is a great FPL option if you’re looking for Brentford defenders in your team. He’s a sure starter having started 37 of 38 games last season in the league, he picked up 11 clean sheets too, and he can even get forward to contribute assists, of which he returned 3 of them in 2022/23.
At £4.5 million, it saves you spending the expense of Ben Mee who is an extra half a million. So when weighing up the cost between the 2, I can’t see Mee being worth the extra bit of money, I’d be picking Rico Henry if given the choice between the 2.
Midfielders
Bryan Mbeumo
With Ivan Toney being out until January, there’s a lot of talk about who will take his place and presence in that side. This is where we have a few names that could take on that role, Bryan Mbeumo is in that list, he’s expected to be on penalties and be higher up the pitch making him a great FPL asset in Toney’s absence. He’s also now been made a midfielder for the new season of 2023/24 which is refreshing as he’ll score more points for scoring goals etc.
I know there’ll be a lot of managers semi-skeptic about how many times he hits the post and I agree with that. I just hope he can be more fortunate and turn it the other side of the woodwork.
Forwards
Yoane Wissa
Also in that list to replace Ivan Toney is Yoane Wissa. Also expected to see a significant increase in minutes played. So if he does get those opportunities to be in the front 2 for Brentford, you can assume that the goals will start to flow with it.
After scoring 7 goals and 4 assists last season despite spending most of the season out of favour and out of the starting line up. It will be very interesting to see how well he does with a consistent starting run in the attack.
