As Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers seek to build formidable squads capable of securing valuable points, the selection of players from Aston Villa has emerged as a captivating option. In this guide, we will explore the best Aston Villa FPL picks, highlighting key players in different positions, their form, and potential for points. Aston Villa’s first 5 fixtures:

  • Newcastle United – Away
  • Everton – Home
  • Burnley – Away
  • Liverpool – Away
  • Crystal Palace – Home

Goalkeepers

Emiliano Martinez

Emi Martinez is a great pick for this years Fantasy Premier League. Last season he racked up 11 clean sheets, now baring in mind the torrid time they endured at the start of last season prior to the sacking of Steven Gerrard and the appointment of Unai Emery, I’d say that’s pretty good going, he got 15 bonus points too in that time. A stat only bettered by Raya, Leno and Sá who now all feature in weaker defences or aren’t expected to play.

His only downside is that he’s the same price point as goalkeepers like Aaron Ramsdale and André Onana. So if you believe that they can get more points than Martinez, you’re probably better off with them.

Defenders

Pau Torres

Now Unai Emery has bought former Villarreal centre back to Villa Park I believe he now represents Aston Villa’s most worthwhile defensive asset. After paying what is believed to be £35 million for the Spaniard, I think it’s safe to assume he’ll be mailed for minutes this season. It was Konsa and Mings that were the chosen partnership following Diego Carlos’ early injury too but with Torres’ signing, if he does start as expected, that leaves one position free for one of those other 3, which I wouldn’t like to be Emery choosing who to play.

Torres comes with a big reputation being in Spain’s international team and winning the Europa League with Villarreal, for £4.5 million, I’ve believe there’s a good chance that he’ll be the defensive asset to go for in a positive fixtures swing.

Alex Moreno

Since signing for the Villains back in January, he has made 14 starts and a great record in those games, having only lost 3 out of those 14 games. Replacing the very respected Lucas Digne, so he’s certainly made an impression under the new gaffer. With 3 assists in those starts as well, he definitely posses the potential for FPL returns by progressing further up the pitch and getting the baller to the striker to finish off.

His price has seen an increase to £5.0 million making him Aston Villa’s most expensive defensive asset. So if you consider him to be worth the extra £0.5 million then maybe he’s one to add to the shortlist.

Midfielders

Jacob Ramsey

Jacob Ramsey is probably a nailed starter alongside Diaby as the more attacking Villa assets. Featuring in every game (when fit) he managed to rack up 6 goals and 7 assists, meaning he was the 2nd highest scoring Villa midfielder in 2022/23. His value as an FPL asset increases as his versatility to play anywhere advanced in the midfield might persuade you to give him the nod in your team. Last season he had an experience in central midfield, left wing and right wing. Returning in every position he played in. Registering the highest ICT score for a Villa midfielder.

The only downside I can really see to Ramsey is we are overwhelmed with fantastic options at £6.5 million this year in FPL for midfielders. So with Ramsey starting this year at £6.0 million, it might be that it’s worth going for a £6.5 million player instead. Depends on how much you need the cash elsewhere and if you back Ramsey to deliver when needed to.

Douglas Luiz

I consider Douglas Luiz to be a decent Fantasy Premier League option when compared to the rest of the Aston Villa midfield options. 1? He’s cheap, at £5.5 Million you’re 2? He is guaranteed minutes, no one else played more minutes than Luiz did last season in Aston Villa’s midfield, this reliability makes him a good option if you’re desperate to pick a Villa option during a good fixture swing for them. 3. He scores goals, he scored 6 goals last season and obtained 17 bonus points, a goal tally that can only be matched by the aforementioned Jacob Ramsey, Ramsey is also second in the bonus points scoring with 13 too.

No player currently set at £5.5 million got more points than Luiz last season in 2022/23. Now it’s never wise to make decisions solely based on that however if he can match the data numbers that he produced last season then there’s no reason he can’t do it again.

Moussa Diaby

Aston Villa’s brand new man from Bayer Leverkusen, has arrived in England with a  huge price tag attached to him, believed to be around £51.3 million. That’s almost doubling the previous record of when they spent £33 million on Emiliano Buendia. He’s entered the game at £6.5 million putting him in the shark tank of players at £6.5 million with the likes of Mitoma, Mbuemo, Eze, Barnes and Mudryk.

He has a healthy record in the Bundesliga, notching 9 goals and 8 assists in 33 games last season. With such a big price tag he’ll be needing to do the same in Birmingham to win favour with the Villa supporters. His versatility to play on either wing and through the middle will be to his credit as it guarantees him more minutes making his value as an FPL option even better.

Forwards

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins as an FPL option needs very little introduction in the list of best Aston Villa FPL picks. Last season he was the 4th highest scoring forward asset in Fantasy Premier League with 175 points. A total only better by Ivan Toney, Harry Kane and of course, Erling Haaland. At £8.0 million it’s a fairly big ask for performances compared to the host of midfield options that can rival Watkins’ price tag. However since Emery’s appointment is when Watkins exploded in returns last season. He’ll definitely be one to watch. He’s currently the 4th most selected attacker in the game so managers alike are expecting him to carry on the form that was so devastatingly good at the end of 2022/23.

Cameron Archer

Archer is in this list as he offers two points of strategy in my opinion. One of them is that he is merely just a great enabler at the price point of £4.5 million and he might end up clocking some minutes off the bench on the odd occasion. However if he’s in your team you’re probably never starting him anyway. The other is that there’s a high chance he could go out on loan depending on whether he is considered to be in Unai Emery’s plans this season. Now given the form that Ollie Watkins was in last season and the recalling of Bertrand Traoré too. I’d say that Archer is at maximum the 3rd choice striker, maybe even lower if you take into consideration players like Keinan Davis and Jhon Durán.

So if he does go out on loan he could go to a club like Luton/Burnley/Sheffield United to bolster their ranks and get more regular minutes, which would make him a really attractive Fantasy Premier League asset then. However it is worth watching to see what happens on that front too because there will no doubt be a host of Championship clubs sniffing round him too.

With a host of talented players, this diverse selection of Aston Villa FPL picks offers managers a wealth of options to strengthen their fantasy teams. From the goal-scoring prowess of the attackers to the defensive resilience of the backline, Aston Villa FPL picks possess the potential to make a significant impact on your FPL season.
